Heirloom Rag Quilt

Let's be honest. This quilt only took me a year and a half to finish. I'm pretty proud of it now, but I'm glad you can't see it well enough to examine the flaws. Believe me, they abound. 

I'm calling it an heirloom quilt because many of the squares are made of Welly's old, beloved clothes, as well as mine. I can even pick out a few shirts I wore when she was still growing inside my belly. We also added some super-soft chenille squares for extra snuggliness.

Fall Leaves Project: Easy and Beautiful

I'm really proud of this project we did. Really. Ask My Bebe. It was so simple.

Step 1: Take a nature walk. Collect fall leaves of various shapes and colors. (Hint: To make this more educational, identify the trees as you go.)

Step 2: ASAP place the leaves face down onto clear contact paper. The leaves should all be about an inch apart.

Step 3: Cut out your leaves, leaving about a half inch of contact paper around each leaf.

Step 4: Place on window or other surface to beautify.

I have been thinking it would be fun to press some leaves for Thanksgiving. When the holiday gets closer, we could attach them to contact paper and stick them to the table. Wouldn't that be cute?

I think if I was going to attach them to a wall, I'd put contact paper on both sides of the leaf, leaving a longer edge on the side that needed to be sticky. Otherwise some of the color may seep onto the wall.

For the Ballerinas...

I made this Ballerina Wall Decoration for another neighbor girl's birthday. Here's what I did...



1. Buy a 12" x 12" square of pine from the hardwood store.

2. Paint around the edge with green acrylic paint.

3. Mod Podge pink polkadot paper to one side of the wood.

4. Find a basic dancer shape on Google Images (you could search for 'ballerina coloring page') and draw it (or print it) onto cardstock.

5. Cut out your image. This will be your stencil.

6. Trace your stencil with pencil onto the back of adhesive vinyl. Cut out your dancer.

7. I cut the word "Dance" out of adhesive vinyl with my Cricut.

8. Place your letters and dancer on the polkadot paper. Decide exactly where they will go before removing the backing.

9. Hot glue a bow in the corner.

10. Attach a picture hanger to the back.

And you're done!

PSS. You could, of course, make this project a whole lot simpler by just using the Cricut to cut your shape along with your words.
