Laundry: Oh how I loathe thee. Let me count the ways.

Laundry is overwhelming to me. It is one of those mundane tasks that is absolutely-positively never-ever done. I'm still working on making the day-to-day tasks meaningful. I decided to make a pledge. Truly. I went up to My Bebe, raised my hand in the air, and said:

I swear to never let the laundry pile up again. I will fold it directly from the dryer every time.

Then I made him swear, too, that he'd never throw the laundry on the floor or the bed. This has turned into doing one load of laundry per day. I know that sounds kind of awful. Daily laundry. But you know what? It hasn't felt overwhelming anymore! This is a breakthrough for me! (Lame that I had to take 8 years to learn it when my mother has always done it this way.)

  1. I have seen the laundry pile called "Mt. NeverRest" and thats' the way it just seems to be! We have a house full of kids and I either do laundry daily, or I spend one whole day washing and another two days folding. It's just easier to do the daily load and have it be done quickly rather than making a 2-3 day production out of it, with no time for anything else. :) Funny how we have to learn the hard way, eh?

  2. Laundry can throw any woman into depression. I have started doing your idea a little bit ago and, like you said, I don't feel nearly as overwhelmed as I used to.

  3. I did the load a day thing for a long time when the twins were first born. But, now I have a system. Three loads on Monday, one on Tuesday, One on Wednesday, Two on Thursday, and Three on friday. None on the weekends. This way I get sheets and blankets done each week too. Just an idea!

And I agree- so overwhelming at times!

  5. So... I like your idea for one batch a day. Do you have a dirty laundry sorting system?

  6. Laundry ugh, never fun! But that is a great way to do it! What I found works for me is I get up early Monday morning and do all (6) loads. I dont stop until it is finished but then I can relax and not worry about it one bit for the whole week! Of course there are those emergency loads though like when someone doesn't make it to the potty in time or things like that! =)

  7. I have a laundry sorter in the laundry room. All the clothes are always separated. Before I had room for a sorter in the LR, I kept three laundry baskets in my closet (or before that...under my bed) to put the clothes into. When I tried to do laundry once a week, it turned into a three-day production.

  8. I like to do a load a day, but we don't have our own washer and dryer yet (and Lost Boy got tired of getting quarters from the bank) so I go visit my mother-in-law for five to six hours each weekend. It helps me be social :)
