Toys.

Toys. I'm not a big fan of them. I just instituted a new rule in my house. If it's left on the floor, it's garbage. Welly thinks it is hilarious to say..."I'm left out!" and I say, "Garbage!"

There are some toys that I find I am a bit attached to, though. I like the ones that promote creativity, like the play kitchen and the dress-ups, the shovels and buckets, and the train table and the art easel.

For the most part, though, I'd like to dump all the toys in the garbage.

Do you have some creative toys you love?

  1. I too have a love-hate relationship with my children's toys. We have a huge collection of "figures". They range from cute, nice disney characters that we paid money for to cheap, poorly made happy meal toys. They are all about 4inches or so. No matter how much it drives me crazy when they are all over the floor, I can't quite get rid of them. Mimi's imaginary play with them is unlimited and I LOVE that. So I cull through them once in awhile and get rid of the really lame ones, but she still has quite a collection and she loves them all.

  2. I have 4 girls, so dolls are the most popular toy at my house, but two specific "dolls" I am beginning to fall in love with. First of all, Build-a-Bears, which aren't really dolls, but I love them. Each of my girls has one, and then they have something to save their chore money for...to buy them clothes. I like the selection of clothing. Nothing actually looks risque on a stuffed bear anyway, but generally it is pretty conservative clothing at a reasonable price. It also gives overexcited Grandparents something to buy that isn't just one more thing in the house. They each have their suitcase of clothes and their bear and that is that. We also make clothes for the bears when we get time.
I feel the same way about the American Girl dolls. They are definitely more expensive, but with the books giving them a personality, it is fun to watch them bond with their doll in a way they don't with a $10 walmart doll. Again, it gives us a way to save chore money and a good idea for presents.
