Unwanted Halloween Candy

I'm the first to admit that Halloween isn't my favorite holiday. BUT...our jello worms did turn out amazing. The idea came from Divine Dinner Party, which I found via Pinterest

Daddy took the kids Trick-or-Treating, while I handed out candy to a fairly small trickle of little neighbors. I opened a huge, Costco-sized bag of chocolate bars just in time for the very last Trick-or-Treater. So, the next day, let's just say, I was less-than-thrilled by the sugar overload around here.

So today, for our morning Mini-Lesson, we did some Candy Experiments. (I'm pleased to announce that we got rid of quite a lot of candy before the kids realized what I was really up to.)

For this first one, you simply put M&Ms or Skittles (the more, the merrier) letter-side up in a bowl of water. Can you see the floating Ms in there? It takes a few minutes for them to separate, but it's very cool.

 Then we mixed candy colors.

Yellow candies+Blue candies=

Red + Blue=

And finally, Yellow+Red=

Tastiness, apparently.

Then, we tested tons of candies to see if they sink or float. That was Y's favorite. He must have put 8 packs of M&Ms in there. (Yes!)

Bubs and Welly had a competition. They each chose 6 candies. Whoever had more floaters was the winner. And the winner is...

Bubs did float a few wrappers, though.

It turned out to be a very fun Mini Lesson, made a small dent in our candy (Oh My!), and wrapped up our fun Halloween festivities.

Happy Halloween...

And welcome to our newest house-guest...who is likely to remain nameless for quite some time.

Easy Halloween Craft: Spiderweb

Bubs came up with this spider and spiderweb, adapting it from something he saw the nursery kids do. I think it would look really cool on a black plate.

1. Cut one inch slits around the edge of the plate and poke a pencil hole through the middle.
2. Tie a knot at the end of a long piece of white embroidery floss or yarn. Wrap it through a slit, then through the hole in the center. Move all around the circle until every slit is used. (In the nursery version of this project, the kids could make any pattern they wanted, and there wasn't a center hole.)
3. Tie a second piece of string in the back, and then wrap it around each of the previous strands in a spiral shape like shown.
4. Make a spider with construction paper and googly eyes.

Enjoy!

Pumpkins!

Grandpa's Pumpkin Patch was quite successful this year. We came home with a Suburban-load of pumpkins...some for us to paint, carve, and admire, and some to sell.

Here's Bubs...

Welly always finds her 'perfect little pumpkin' that can't be carved or in any way defiled.

Daddy found one to his liking, too. (When I asked him if I could post this picture, he said, "If it makes you happy." Isn't he great?)

Scrub-a-dub, Little Lovies...

I LOVE clouds.

Our entrepreneurial attempts weren't all that successful. We needed our salesman daddy to help. Anyone still need pumpkins?

Sucker Ghosts: Easy Halloween Project

Have you ever made sucker ghosts? They're so easy. You just wrap a tootsie pop with a tissue and tie it with white ribbon or yarn. You can give them faces if you want. And that's it. Quick and easy. They're great if you need to bring a halloween treat somewhere.
Enjoy the big weekend.
Loves.

Trash bag ghosts and napkin bats and tissue ghosts, Oh my.

I do love fall. I really do. BUT I don't love the sicknesses that come with it. We aren't very sick. Just sick enough.

Halloween Sign Craft, aka You can be a wicked witch, too.

I made this sign last October. I was excited to find it again. It was pretty simple to make.

Here's the low-down...

1. Paint your wood black.
2. Mod podge orange paper to the front. (I do the first layer with my mod podge watered down to avoid bubbling. If I'm still getting a lot of bumps in my papers, I blow dry them down.)
3. Cut letters and leaves from adhesive vinyl (I used my Cricut).
4. Place them on your sign.
...And Wallah!
