The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo

Review by me, Emily

Edward Tulane is a fancy porcelain doll. Actually, he despises the word 'doll'. He's a much-loved porcelain rabbit. BUT, love doesn't mean much to him. He is too consumed in his own self-love to care about anything else.

Until he goes on a journey. Edward Tulane finds himself going from one hardship to another for years. He spends a lot of time at the bottom of the ocean, in a dump, and traveling with hobos.

During this journey, he discovers himself. He discovers love, but when he loses it over and over, he becomes even more hardened than before.

I know this story sounds sad, but it is so heartfelt. Kate DiCamillo has a way of bringing characters to life, and you just have to root for them as they go through the difficulties of life.

I'll admit it. I cried at the end of this story. The babies think it is quite hilarious when I cry while reading aloud to them.

Quick chapters and realistic (if porcelain) characters make this book an easy read that the whole family can enjoy AND learn from.
