Berry Pickin' at McBride Berry Patch

We were thrilled when Uncle Terry and Aunt Marissa invited us to go raspberry and blackberry picking with them. We made the short drive over to McBride Berry Patch in Mapleton. You can find the info here at PickYourOwn.org.

The day was cold and rainy, but we were all way too excited to be deterred.
I told Welly to wear long pants, so she asked, "Can I at least wear a skirt over my pants?" :)

Anyway, we picked tons of berries at 3 bucks/pound. (Anyone have a great recipe they want to share?)

Then (while I fed Why-Why in the car), the troops ventured into other parts of McBride farm. The McBrides (who I totally adored, by the way) told them to help themselves to some tomatoes and onions.
Don't these look awesome? Oh yeah, the onions, too.
We had such a lovely time. Truly. That was one of my favorite family outings EVER. Go check out McBride Berry Patch if you're local.
I'm sure we'll be going back!

  2. You may have eaten all of your berries by now, but here's an easy yet surprisingly delicious berry pie recipe I picked up from a friend after picking wild blackberries while living in the Puget Sound. Raspberries can be substituted for black:

    Blackberry Crumb Pie
    Recipe from Southern Living
    1 C Sugar
    8 oz Commercial sour cream
    3 TB All-purpose flour
    1/8 tsp Salt
    4 C Fresh blackberries
    1 Unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
    1 TB Sugar
    1/4 C Fine dry breadcrumbs
    1 TB Sugar
1 TB Butter or margarine; melted
Combine first 4 ingredients; stir well. Place blackberries in unbaked pastry shell; sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar over berries. Spread sour cream mixture over berries. Combine breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon sugar, and butter; sprinkle over top. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until center of pie is firm. May serve a la mode.

P.S. I haven't visited your blog for a while, but I do enjoy it. I became friends with your mom at basketball, before I became too pregnant anyhow. You came to play a time or two. Yes, we use code names on our family blog, but my real is Laura.

  3. Thanks, Laura! My mom is here now, so I showed her your recipe and blog. We did eat all of our berries, but I think we're going to go back for more!
